_____________________________________________________ The Nirvana Fan Club Newsletter - # 01 - June 2, 1998 ----------------------------------------------------- Introduction ============ Welcome to the very first newsletter from the brand new Internet Nirvana Fan Club mailing list. These newsletters will be sent out about 3-4 times a month, and will basically contain information about the latest updates to my site [http://www.nirvanaclub.com] - and bring the latest Nirvana related news. Later on, I might expand the newsletter with bringing stuff like Questions & Answers, competitions, Quiz's and more. This is not a digest like HSMB and you will not really be able to participate in the contents of this newsletter. For now anyway. If you have suggestions or things you would like to see changed about it - feel free to e-mail me [list@nirvanaclub.com] If you are not interested in learning details about what I have recently added to the site, then I suggest you unsubscribe from this newsletter - because just that will, for now, be the primary content. Let's go on! Site Updates ============ I recently added a pull-down menu to the bottom of my site (it is located besides my banner), from where you can select which part of the site you would like to visit. Of course you can also select that from the picture at the right, on the top of the page but that function doesn't work for just everyone. So if you have problems using the menu map, then just use this new pull down menu and you should be set. I just removed the banner advertising for the new Methodists CD since the offer expired, and I have replaced it with the banner for the Internet Link Exchange. I will probably add a new banner for the Methodist soon, since they are just about to release their first CD "Cookie". I have a copy of it, and it rocks! Then, I also added this whole newsletter thing and on the main page you can subscribe yourself to the list just by submitting your e-mail address. I'm sure you figured that out by now, since you are reading this :) Hmm - if you are wondering about what happened to the counter at my main page then the story behind it is that the text counter suddenly reset and kept doing it when I set it back to the proper value ... so I have now swapped it with a graphical counter instead .. hopefully it works better. I recently changed my link page, too. Now every link - both the Nirvana related ones and the regular ones are on the same page. Now you can submit a link instantly for your own site (or a site you like) - so you don't have to e-mail me asking me to add one. This is very easy to use and the link will be up right after you submit it. Try it out on the link page [http://www.nirvanaclub.com/links/index.html] Nirvana News ============ The thing every Nirvana fan is talking about right now is WHEN the new album will be out. Currently it is difficult to say exactly when it will be out. Even the band members seem to disagree on it. Krist and Dave have both said it should be out in the year 2000, or before. But I have heard that the album will be released in September 1998. I can't say for sure if that is really true. It should be sure, though, that the album will be a boxed set containing previously unreleased studio sessions and probaby live clips too, maybe even a complete live concert. I have a feeling that the April 1990 Smart Studio Sessions will be released in the boxed set. The songs from that session should be: Dive In Bloom Polly Stay Away Here She Comes Now 'Dive' ended up on the 'Sliver' single, 'In Bloom' on Sub Pop's "Video Network One" and 'Polly' on Nevermind. 'Stay away' from this session should be on DGC rarities vol 1 and 'Here she comes now' on the Velvet Underground tribute album called "Between heaven and hell". So, those 5 songs are already released and widely circulating. But according to John Loughney's Recording Sessions Guide, another few songs were recorded at this session: Lithium, Breed and Verse Chorus Verse. The Lithium recording is already out on several bootlegs and sounds very interesting. 'Verse Chorus Verse' from this session is on some bootlegs, too. It is hard to say which live show would be in the boxed set, if any. But my guesses are the 10/31/91 Seattle, WA and 11/25/91 Amsterdam shows. Geffen recorded the 11/25/91 Amsterdam show for sure, and used nothing less than FOUR songs from it on the "Muddy Banks" album. Maybe it is unrealistic that a new release should be only four months away .. but let's hope! Misc Stuff ========== A guy called "Slippyboy" recently posted a message to the Nirvana newsgroup, with a phone number to a hotel Dave Grohl was staying at. Apparently, nobody actually got in touch with Dave via the phone number but slippyboy is now hated by many AMN and HSMB readers because he did this disrespectful thing. By the way, Hole's new album should be officially released September 8, 1998 Subscribing/Unsubscribing ========================= If you got a copy of this newsletter, but is not currently a subscriber - then just sign up for the list on my main page [http://www.nirvanaclub.com/] If you would like to unsubscribe from the list and get your e-mail address removed from the list - send an e-mail to me [list@nirvanaclub.com] and in the subject put "Unsub your@emailaddress".
