NFC News Weezer reveals Nirvana influence
From MTV: "Weezer are returning with a new album next month and in one track have revealed how Nirvana inspired them to form the band. On Heart Songs the group- fronted by Rivers Cuomo- list their influences and mention legends Nirvana.
The lyrics run: 'Back in 1991 I wasnít having any fun, Until my roommate said C'mon and put a brand new record on, It had a baby on it, he was naked on it, And then I heard the chords that broke the chains I had upon me.'
The reference to a naked baby is clearly about Nirvana's classic album Nevermind."
Full story here.
Back in 1998, Weezer played an entire show of Nirvana covers under the name "Goat Punishment".

NFC News New Krist Novoselic interview by Kurt Danielson (TAD)
An excerpt from the article: "As a tribute to Nirvana, Flipper has been playing a cover of Scentless Apprentice, which is off of In Utero, Nirvana's last non-compilation studio recording. It's a bit strange for Krist to be playing a cover of a song for which he wrote the bass-line, but it's not strange to be playing in Flipper, a band which embraces the kind of cathartic punk ethos that originally heavily influenced both Krist and Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain as well as the Nirvana sound in general."

NFC News "Rape Me" on 'Bad songs by good bands' list
On a Spinner.com chart of "Bad Songs By Good Bands", Nirvana made it to spot #13 with Rape Me: "With its look-at-me outrageous title begging to be misinterpreted, Kurt Cobain and his unhelpfully obtuse lyrics managed to alienate the women he claimed to write this song in solidarity of. The big box stores refused to stock 'In Utero' on its shelves until Cobain agreed to change the track's name to 'Waif Me.' It says a lot when Wal-Mart's censorious meddling actually improves a song." Courtesy of spinner.com.
Other songs on the list include classics by Smashing Pumpkins, Kiss and U2. See the full list here.

NFC News Dave Grohl writes open letter to Metallica??
Allegedly, former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl has written an open letter to Metallica who are currently working on their latest album:
Hey, it's Dave! Remember me? Yeah, I'm the guy that's been listening to your band faithfully since 1983. I bought your first album 'Kill 'Em All' from a mail order catalogue called Under The Rainbow, I think. Actually I can't remember. It was 1983 for Christsakes! But that album changed my life and I've been listening to your albums ever since (even 'St Anger'!).
"I can't wait to hear the new shit, and no matter what you guys do I'll always be first one at the shop waiting to hear it. I'm sure you'll come out and blow everybody's fuckin' minds, because you're fuckin' METALLICA!
"Good luck. And don't release it until it's kick-ass.
"Yours, Dave Grohl.
"P.S. Are you finished recording the drums yet?"
