_______________________________________________________________ The Internet Nirvana Fan Club Newsletter - # 21 - July 06, 1999 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ________________ - Introduction - ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Welcome to the 21st Internet Nirvana Fan Club Newsletter. First I must apologize for the dumb errors near the end of the last newsletter. First I managed to say that the new Star Wars movie only grossed $28.5 in its opening day. It was $28.5 million of course. Also, when I mentioned the release date for the "Bleem" emulator, I didn't include the full date, which is May 15th, 1999. I'm sure there were a couple of other errors but these two were the major ones. This newsletter will, naturally, be shorter than the last anniversary one, but should still bring some interesting News. We have now passed the 10.000 subscribers mark! Thanks for joining! ________________ - Site Updates - ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The file I have updated most frequently over these past few months is, without a doubt, the document presenting a listing of some movies and television shows with Nirvana related occur- rences. Basically, the support of this section has exploded and I am getting additions to it daily. It is now over 50 kb large, thus presenting a healthy listing of all sorts of movies and television shows that have something to do with Nirvana. I am obviously very happy about this but I need to have some restrictions as to what sort of information is added, or else the file will grow too large and uninteresting. Thereby I try to only add information about actual movies or TV shows where Nirvana as a band is mentioned in some connection, or where a member of Nirvana is mentioned or presented in some way. For example, as you can see in the list, a lot of shows have had an episode where some of the cast members talk about Nirvana or Cobain. I try not to add info about some MTV show where they ask someone who his/hers fa- vorite band is, replying Nirvana. Anyway, thanks to everyone who has contributed. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/facts/movapp.htm ] Another file that was briefly updated is the complete list of Nir- vana songs. Not a whole lot was added, but some. A couple of corrections here and there were done too. Just contact me if you have something to add. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/text/songs.txt ] A slew of links to movie files was added to the movie gallery. Most of these point to MTV's website who host some interviews they did with the band, and clips from the live shows they taped but have never aired in full length. I actually had links to most of these files previously, before I changed the design for the movie gallery, but the files changed location and have now been updated with the correct URLs. So download them while they are online. The Movie Gallery – [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/movies.htm ] The Sound Gallery also changed, as the company hosting the files decided to delete my account and thereby delete all the files. This didn't come as a surprise, though, so the files have been moved elsewhere and the sound gallery will soon be back online after a down time for about 2 weeks. Special thanks to Brandon Speer for hosting the files, and providing the necessary space & bandwidth. A few weeks ago, a Francisco Chavando from Los Angeles, Cali- fornia suffered from a multiple personalities disorder as he at- tempted to impersonate myself and especially The Internet Nir- vana Fan Club, by using some obscure Hotmail address. What he did was send out e-mails to selected Nirvana fans, saying they had won in nirvanaclub's competition. They had even won a "Molly's Lips Clear Vinyl 7'" which doesn't even exist. Fortunately, no- body fell for this cheap trick and Mr. Chavando's three Hotmail addresses were terminated, courtesy of Hotmail administrators. So should you be in doubt, the only "You have won" e-mails that will be sent out in conjunction with the NFC competitions will be sent from webmaster@nirvanaclub.com, using the host get2net.dk. I never use any E-mail addresses what so ever outside of the hosts @nirvanaclub.com and @get2net.dk. Keep that in mind. Thanks. A couple of new questions and answers were added to the NFC FAQ. Most importantly, an answer to the common question; if the Foo Fighters song 'My Hero' is about Kurt Cobain or not. Again, minor corrections to some of the existing answers were done and one or two answers were completely removed. A little more info to the Pennyroyal Tea Single answer was added too, courtesy of Mitch Vassar and Dave B. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/nfc_faq.htm ] A clip of the fake "Buffy's Pregnant" track from the fake Fecal Matter Demo tape floating around was added to the Facts and In- formation page, to supplement the file of the same song – but the pre-vocals version. Now you can, if you for some reason want to, hear this fake track both before and after vocals were added. The real demo has yet to surface. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/facts/ ] Some links to various money scams and pyramid schemes were removed from the links page, and a few other inappropriate links were removed as well. The good news is that you can now find over 600 links, mostly to Nirvana related sites, in this comprehen- sive list. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/links/index.html ] Another WinAMP skin was added to the "Nirvana for your com- puter" section. This time the skin is of the Bleach cover and was made by Rob. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/compstuff.htm ] A few corrections were done to the page with rare lyrics. Thanks to 'KuRL' & others for these. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/lyrics/ ] A file with tabs to all Nirvana's songs from their six official al- bums was added to the Tabs section, courtesy of Brandon Sharp. The 2nd NFC competition just ended. The three lucky winners are: The first prize, a Nirvana book, goes out to Peter Thisell, second prize, an interview disc, goes to Nick Kelly and the third prize, the Outcesticide V bootleg, goes to Andrew Olivares. Surprisingly, only 636 people entered their name to this competition. The third competition will be online soon, presenting prizes that include a 128- page book and a rare promo CD by the Foo Fighters. All prizes are provided courtesy of Simon Wright and Esprit Inter- national. The competition: [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/contest/ ] A couple of old and heavily outdated files were removed from the website. This includes the file with 'News' that hadn't been up- dated since sometime in 1997, and the file with the few website reviews I did in 1998. Keeping everything up to date is a some- what high priority for me, as I hate pages with lots of outdated files. I have yet to implement a joint design for all sections of the website, though, but I may do that sometime. The 10th poll: "Do you collect Nirvana bootlegs?" finished with the following results, which aren't that surprising, to me at least. Yes – 1006 votes (73%) No – 370 votes (27%) So as you can see the number of Nirvana bootleg collectors is quite high, and a hobby for many. But if it weren't for bootlegs, Nirvana fans would never have heard the hundreds of concerts and various demo sessions that are floating around. The next Q: "Did you ever see Nirvana live in concert?" can be voted for now. The other day I was contacted by Salvatore Caputo, who wrote one of the articles in the "Articles and Interviews" section. The article, which is a review of Nirvana's 1993 show in Phoenix, was used in a January 1994 issue of Circus Magazine. I got official permission from Sal to use this article on the website. A couple of weeks back I also received permission to use the articles from The Rocket, by the editor Charles R. Cross. So, remember to contact me if you are the rightful copyright owner of a document located in this section. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/interviews/ ] 'Kurdt' from Finland was kind enough to translate the disclaimer for these newsletters to the Finnish language. So for those of you from Finland who are reading this, and want to freshen up the rules for this newsletter, simply read the translated disclaimer. The disclaimer is now available in English, Spanish, Dutch, Fin- nish and Turkish. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/newslet/ ] There was a large update to the site in early July, as I decided to ditch the old WWWBoard script. Instead, I have now switched over to the popular, and much recent, script called Ultimate Bul- letin Board. This one is a lot more advanced and offers plenty more options over the old script, and the look and feel of it is far better. Since this script requires the user to register, and with it's extensive security features, the Spam and abuse should now be a fling of the past. Finally, the board is split into three 'forums', one focusing on Nirvana only, another focusing on bootleg related talking and trading, and finally a more obscure forum that doesn't have a topic or strict guidelines. The new script has been well ac- cepted among the regular users, of the previous board, and no less than 220 messages had been posted, just eight hours after the script was installed. If you too want to participate in the discus- sions and use this new script, head on over to the following URL. It's completely free to use it! [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/ubb/ ] The Internet Nirvana Fan Club has pulled out of the cooperation with amazon.com, as the benefits of being in their 'associates' program were too dissatisfying. In fact, they only gave you a 5% bonus of the amount your link could sell books for. So in other words, if my link to amazon brought in new customers who would buy books for $100 at amazon, I would only get a check for $5. That is, to put it mildly, a rip-off compared to what other online stores can offer their associates. They have one hell of a selection of books to chose from, though. But that's another story ... :) Speaking of online stores, The Internet Nirvana Fan Club was mentioned in Esprit International's newsletter. Esprit is an online record store, based in the UK, who has thousands of rare items for sale. This includes over 100 Nirvana CDs, books, vinyl's etc. The Nirvana Fan Club was selected as 'Esprit's Recommended Fan Site of the Week', noting that; "Out of all The Nirvana fan sites out there we've found the 'Internet Nirvana Fan Club' to be the most professional and informative! You will find a daily updated News section, picture, sound & movie galleries plus loads more (far too much to list!)" Thanks! Check out the Nirvana part of their selection here. [ http://www.eil.co.uk/collection/nirvana.asp ] Apparently, the Internet Nirvana Fan Club was mentioned on MTV's teletext service (text TV). According to Sandra who told me about this, it was on page 205 or 206. Or around that number at least. I'm not sure if this was on MTV Europe or one of the other worldwide variants of MTV. Nevertheless, it's quite an honor to get mentioned there, I think. In fact I used MTV's tele- text service constantly back in 1993 and 1994 where I also used to watch MTV Europe all the time, due to the kick ass VJ's they had and all the good music videos they played. Today, well, ... ________________ - Nirvana News - ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ It seems that everyone these days are creating some sort of data- base or mailing list with good and bad Nirvana bootleg traders. Thus, three such services opened recently. First there is the 'Trad- ers Mailing List' [ http://members.xoom.com/tradersml/tml.htm ] and then the 'Anti Bad Trader Mailing List' which should help in weeding out the number of rip-offs and con artists. Check that one out here: [ http://members.tripod.com/badtrader ]. Finally, another service for Nirvana traders 'A Trading Tree for Nirvana' opened. Find it here: [ http://home.sol.no/~oeik/sapc/tree ]. This may seem as overdoing it, but as the poll results I just presented above shows, the demand is there and a lot of people collect Nirvana bootlegs. Another new version of the Nirvana Setlister, a program that should make life a little bit easier for traders, created by Liam, should be underway. [ http://members.xoom.com/nirvanatns ] Yet another Nirvana related book is in the works. I recently re- ceived an E-mail from Michael Hall, who is working on a book project together with Rizzoli Publishing. "I am putting together a book based on the artistic endeavors created through the inspira- tion of Kurt Cobain, both before and after he left us." "Primarily the book was based on visual art and was slated for a very original coffee table style layout, but we have been getting such great re- sponses from writers, who have been affected by Kurt that we are now including a wider format to include all aspects of art." If you would like to help out with this book, or host a banner advertising for it on your page, contact Michael at: mj.hall@worldnet.att.net. Again, a new Nirvana domain has opened its doors to the net and all the Nirvana fans using it. The people behind this one are fellow NFC supporters; Mike Jenkins, Brendan Marten & Jason Sumpter. This new site is named Nirvana World and can be found at this URL: [ http://www.nirvanaworld.com/ ] Good luck, guys! As reported in the last newsletter, Rob Holmes' website "The Happening" was looking for a new owner. Well, now Mike Zieg- ler has taken over the website. Personally I am glad to see this site back online with a new maintainer, and I thereby hope that the live guide will survive. After the switch, the site changed URL to [ http://happening.tsx.org ] - [ http://members.xoom.com/mekez/ ] Rebecca Madison decided to create a new Nirvana CD-ROM, containing a bunch of Nirvana related files. She also included some files from nirvanaclub.com, along with sound files and more interesting material. For more information on how to get a copy, you may want to contact her at: [ rmadison@eudoramail.com ] "Nevermind" producer Butch Vig has once again taken the pro- ducer chair as he is enlisted to do some cosmetic changes for the new album by Ash. He is set to "resequence" the record and remix several tracks, including the first U.S. single, 'Jesus Says'. 'Nu- Clear Sounds' is due out on August 24." News courtesy of MTV. Nirvana is mentioned in the June 28 edition of Newsweek, with Liz Taylor on the cover. In the feature "Voices of the Century", there is a picture of Nirvana – from Rolling Stone – and a brief interview with Krist and Dave talking about the 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' music video ... of all things. Thanks to Chris Min- elli and Tyler for the News. [ http://www.newsweek.com/ ] In the Nickelodeon magazine, in the current issue with Star Wars on the front, Nirvana is in one of the Quiz's on page 58. They are number 6. It has the opening lyrics to 'Come as you are' and then you have to pick which one comes next. Thanks to Peter for this. This weekend a Providence radio station did a countdown for the Top 500 songs of all time. 500 songs are a lot of songs, so out of all the songs that could have been #1, the #1 song was Smells Like Teen Spirit from Nirvana, for it's second year! Thanks to Jena Santiago for this News. ______________ - Misc. News - ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The Red Hot Chili Peppers just released their latest album "Cali- fornication" which had a little surprise for Nirvana fans, as the ti- tle track had a reference to Kurt Cobain. RHCP's lead singer Mr. Anthony Kiedis explained his admiration of Kurt Cobain further to 'Addicted to Noise', in a recent interview published on the net; "Oh, I would just say that I loved him. From what little time I did spend with him, I loved him. But I also love his music and love his spirit and love his eyes and his voice. He had a very strong ef- fect on me emotionally, as a guy and as a musician. The song is just kind of a 'Hello, how are you out there in outer space?' type of reference. And I hope that he's hearing good music." - Check the full interview at ATN's site. [ http://www.addict.com/ ] The song line in question, from the actual song "Californication", is as follows: 'Cobain can you hear the spheres, singing songs off station to station, and Alderon's not far away, it's Californication.' Last month, this year's MTV Movie Awards ceremony took place. The first presenter of the evening was Courtney Love who gave away the award for 'Best on-screen duo'. Further, clips from a couple of Foo Fighters songs were played while some of the nominations were shown, for a different category though. Speaking of Courtney, Entertainment Weekly did a brief interview with her recently. You can read it at the following URL if you'd like. [ http://cgi.pathfinder.com/ew/fab400/music100/int3.html ] Not that I want to turn this into a Courtney Love newsletter but this next piece of News I found rather interesting. "Courtney Love will take a literary spin for her next film, as the Hole front woman has been cast as Joan Vollmer Adams, the common-law wife of 'Naked Lunch' author, beat legend, and heroin addict William S. Burroughs, in an upcoming indie film, 'Beat.' The movie focuses on Adams pre-Burroughs romance with Beat philosopher Lucien Carr, who will be played by Norman Reedus. The film is expected to start shooting on July 26 in Mexico City." This News was also courtesy of MTV. It is worth to mention that Kurt Cobain worked with Mr. Burroughs, in 1992, where he contributed the back- ground guitar for a recording of a story read by Burroughs. Franz Stahl, the Foo Fighters guitarist, has left the band. Accord- ing to the Foo Fighters Internet Archive, the band describes the parting as "amicable but necessary." Franz took over the 2nd gui- tarist position for The Foo Fighters, from Pat Smear, former Nir- vana guitarist, after he quit the band a few years ago. The fact that Franz has left the band, and that the three remaining members are working on the 3rd studio album, has forced the band to quit their appearance at the 1999 Woodstock Festival in Rome, New York. MTV News reported the Woodstock cancellation as being due to some scheduling problems; "The band says that it pulled out of Woodstock '99 to finish mixing its next record. Sources close to the festival say that there may have also been scheduling problems that made it difficult for the complete Foo lineup to take the stage. The Foos are expected to drop their as-yet-untitled follow-up to 1997's 'The Colour and the Shape' sometime this fall. The band has yet to determine which record label will handle the album." Another great band who've dropped out of the '99 Woodstock festival as well is Aerosmith, who blamed 'production problems'. Not only the Foo Fighters have lost a member -- the bassist of grunge-rockers Mudhoney, Matt Lukin, has left the band. "Ac- cording to Mudhoney vocalist-guitarist Mark Arm, Lukin, who was immortalized in a Pearl Jam song of the same name, is retir- ing from music, and the remaining band members will be taking a break from the group, which has just parted company with its la- bel, Reprise. Reprise Records publicist Rick Gershon confirmed both Lukin's departure as well as the Mudhoney-Reprise split, which were reported by Arm in a post to an unofficial Mudhoney Web site. Mudhoney drummer Dan Peters, who had been playing in Valis with Van Connor of Screaming Trees fame, has now hooked up with Seattle's Mike Johnson." This News was courtesy of MTV News. Nirvana's Kurt Cobain did a duet with Mark Arm from Mudhoney in September 1992 and Dan Peters took the place as Nirvana's drummer for their infamous show in Seattle, WA - September 1990. The only show Dan did with them. ___________________ - Reidar's Column - ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ This column is about the 1999 Roskilde Festival, in Denmark, which Reidar attended. While this is not so Nirvana related, we figured you'd still find it interesting. It starts out with Reidar de- scribing how he met with one of his favorite bands, Bob Hund. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The only problem with what I experienced, is the fact that the rest of my life is not worth living. I could shoot myself in the head tomorrow, and it wouldn't matter cause I've lived to experience the most important thing in my life. I couldn't possibly top this. What is all of this? Words can never describe it properly, but I'll try my best. I met bob hund. I was standing around waiting for the 22-Pistepirkko show to start, and there was this weird bald guy I knew so very well standing one meter in front of me. He had two other members of the rock group with him, plus the two film makers and two guys I don't know. I took pictures and talked to them. My top five concerts: Metallica Bob hund R.E.M. Gluecifer Jello Biafra - I started off with Gluecifer at six in the day, the official start of the festival. I had my camera with me, and used the end of the first and half-used film roll taking pictures of this band. Really enjoying the show, (which was amazing, you should all try to find a Gluecifer CD) I sat down on the grass and started changing the film roll. Major bummer. The camera battery wasn't working any more. I ran around the festival area trying to find the Kodak shop I knew was somewhere, and I finally found it. The fu##ers had sold out all of the battery-types I needed. Apparently, other people had done the same mistake as I had. I hated myself, as I had promised Rasmus (who's reading this, shocked because of the fact that it now seems like I didn't take any pictures of Metallica) to take a lot of pictures of Metallica. But I'm smarter than most people give me credit for. I bought a use-once-then-destroy-camera, and ta-dah. The only problem was the fact that I could only take ten pictures of Metallica, because as things were going, I had to save the 27 pictures available on the camera for Metallica, R.E.M., bob hund and whatever else I decided to take pictures of. I did take twelve pictures, some from the big screen, and some pretty close to the stage. Yes, pretty close to the stage. The Metallica show was the greatest show of them all. First of all because Metallica-fans know how to behave, they're there to listen to the best band in the world and have a great time head banging and jumping up and down. (Unlike the R.E.M. fans I'll get back to later on.) They played for two and a half hours, and I started the concert fifty meters away from the stage. In the end, I was standing ten or fifteen meters away from the greatest live band in the world right now, and I was loving every second. The band played amazing, and they decided to play the greatest classics. "For Whom The Bell Tolls" was the first big one, and I was amazed. "Fight Fire With Fire" was also played, and I was looking forward to writing this and write 'I mean, they played Fight Fire With Fire!' Things had only started to shape up, my friend. When was the last time Metallica decided to play "Wher- ever I May Roam," "Master Of Puppets," "Nothing Else Mat- ters," "Enter Sandman," "Sad But True" and "Battery" during the same show? They played even more of those great old songs, but I can't remember which ones. They did six encores, and ended it all with a great version of "Battery." If I'd die tomorrow and would only have had the opportunity to see one Metallica-show in my whole life, this one would defini- tely be it. Hell, I believe I'd even choose this one for the 'Best Concert Of Your Life' award. Maybe because it was my first ma- jor rock and roll show. I dunno. Maybe because I was having the greatest time standing by two Metallica-fans and singing along to most of the songs with them. I dunno. Maybe because the show really did rock. I dunno. But all of these factors lead to one con- clusion: You all really should've been there. That was the end of Day One. It turned out to be the best day of the whole festival, maybe because of the fact that it was, quite simply, the first day. [Or maybe because all the rock and heavy metal bands played this day? –RH] During the first day, I listened to Ministry from my tent, and when I was passing by the Green Stage, which was the stage closest to my tent. They were pretty good, at least the three songs I listened to. I also heard some songs by Kyed as I was passing the White Stage, and that was also pretty good. Maybe because I was ready to be taken away by any music getting through my skull, I dunno. As mentioned, I stuck around for most of Gluecifer's set, and they rocked. I listened to one song by The Tuesdays, because The Tuesdays suck (although this song was rather good), and I sat down by the Orange Stage and listened to Manic Street Preachers from the Green Stage. I tried to get in at the Green Stage, but it was filled and I nearly suffocated as I got close to the beginning of the tent, cause there were way too many people in front, in back, to the left and to the right of me. So I went back to the Orange Stage and saw it all on the big screen instead. Then Monster Magnet got onstage on the Orange Screen, and I saw the whole set. The only bad thing was, like most of the bands, they played a short set. When they started their last song, people started dancing and singing along. But it's pretty useless when people only get the chance to enjoy one song because it takes some time to get into a band you've never heard before, and they play too short of a set to enjoy it when you first get to know the band. I walked over to the Green Stage again, trying to get a glimpse of Marilyn Manson. This is when some freak with black mascara, piercing and a 'Marilyn Manson' T-shirt taught me about the morons who take up the space the hard-core fans should've had. There were way too many people trying to see Marilyn Man- son, he even had to prepare a oxygen machine backstage as he and the crew members thought someone would need it, and some nearly did. I decided to view Marilyn Manson on the big screen. I loved the opening of the show, as there was dark and synch noises, and this wickedly cool guitar. It turned out the guitar guy was Metallica's soundman. Then my life changed, I saw Metallica, and the rest is history as they say. A great band in great shape playing the greatest songs of their career - can one wish for more? I tried to go to sleep after- wards, but it was impossible because of the drunk teenagers play- ing their crappy music. The second day didn't include that much extremely boring waiting time for the shows to start. I decided to catch the Jello Biafra show at three o'clock, having listened to Hammerfall from outside my tent. This forced me to miss most of the Wilco show as that show was being played on the Yellow Stage, a long way away from the White Tent. For those interested, the stages was set up in this direction, from left to right: Tech One, Tech Two, Yellow Stage, Ballroom, Orange Stage, White Stage, Green Stage. The first two were at a separate place together. The Yellow stage was quite a walk away from the Orange Stage, while the Ballroom was behind the Orange Stage. The White Stage was quite a walk away from the Orange Stage, but that didn't do much when great bands weren't playing, as you could see most of it on the big screen from the White Stage. (And also listen to most of it if you stepped away from the range of the White Stage speakers.) Then the Green Stage was far too long away from the White Stage. Anyway, I listened to Jello Biafra and he really has a lot to say, and it all makes sense. I even caught his second show at seven in the evening. It was a completely different show, and both shows made you think twice about what you're really doing on this Earth. Maybe his thoughts are a little biased, but you need something like that for the biased view those who say the opposite he's say- ing are making the world believe in. Little did I know that the so-called R.E.M. fans don't know how to behave on an arena rock show. No offense girls out there (but since this only happens with girls, I had to put it that way), but rock and roll is not made for fancy dances. You're not supposed to have choreography when R.E.M. is on. The ever-popular 'hand- behind-back-and-twisting' dance really doesn't do it. All it does is making little space into less, forcing those of us who want to listen to the music and maybe move the head a little bit to the bass riff to be really annoyed. I instantly decided to go backwards, and the dancing go-go-girls didn't end until I was behind the big screen. I started taking pictures, and had taken three rolls as they were playing "Sweetness Follows." It was the fourth song I believe. The whole 'dancing' incident made me really annoyed. But I stood there and I started singing along and I had fun without the stupid dancing girls. (For the record, I haven't seen this much terrible dancing since Elaine Benes [From Seinfeld] did her debut.) They played a lot of good old songs, and kept the Up songs to a minimum. They even played two brand new songs, which were fairly good. They ended it with "It's The End Of The World," which was pretty cool. Wish they'd played a little bit more, though. I can't remember which songs they played and which they didn't, but I remember "Find The River," "Crush With Eyeliner," "What's The Frequency, Kenneth," "Wake-up Bomb" and a short and improvised tribute song to the moon which was rising at the time they played. I was feeling terrible by Saturday. Although there were several bands I wanted to see this day, I didn't really get started until eight in the evening. The bands had already been playing for eight hours by then. I did go to the Orange Stage at four to see The Flaming Lips Car Experience. This is officially 'The Biggest Disappointment Of The Roskilde Festival' on my behalf. First of all, they decided to do it without speakers, but with these hand-held megaphones. That might work fine other places, but with bands playing to the right and to the left, it won't work. I sat twenty meters away from the cars, and I didn't hear dip shit. I did sense the one song I know by them being played, nothing more, nothing less. I made my way back to me tent, and slept until seven o'clock when I had something to eat and drink. I'd missed many bands by now, most noticeably Psyched Up Janis and Kashmir. I caught the last two songs of Motorphsycho's set, regretting not getting there earlier as it rocked. Apparently, they were only allowed to play for 55 minutes, leaving the stage empty for 45 minutes until 22-Pistepirkko got on stage and started tuning their instruments. Where's the common sense in doing this? They could've been playing twice as much, but they weren't allowed to. Bob hund got on, and I had a great time. I loved "Nu Vill Jag Vara Din Hund," as I was the only one who knew they'd play it, thus I was the only one singing along. You should've seen the looks I got, "Hey, this guy knows the song I've never heard them play be- fore" and all of that. I felt great. The show really rocked. It totally rocked. The vocals were a little too low during the last two songs, probably because the music was so loud. They only played for an hour and a half, and as the introducer got on stage after-wards telling us the show was over, everyone started throwing whatever we had in our hands at him. I didn't throw anything, as I didn't have anything. There were at least thirty glasses of water and beer thrown at him. It rocked. "There is no more music, and no more water!" he said, and left. Two hundred people stayed for fifteen minutes chanting trying to get them back on stage. In the mean- time, the Bob hund fan shop sold out all the T-shirts. Crap. I got home at nine in the morning, having been on the road for seventeen hours by then. I instantly fell asleep and slept until four. Now I'm writing this, and I'm patiently waiting for tomorrow to arrive, going to the local newspaper and pre-develop the film rolls. Maybe there are even some good shots?
