___________________________________________________________________ The Internet Nirvana Fan Club Newsletter - # 10 - September 9, 1998 ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ Introduction ------------ Welcome to the 10th Nirvana Fan Club Newsletter. The main reason for this letter is the release of Hole's long awaited album "Celebrity Skin", which is the first release from the band since 1994's "Live Through This". There have also been few updates to my site and there are some minor Nirvana related news items to bring. Have fun ! Site Updates ------------ I added a few new scans to the picture gallery, in the single/EP covers and misc. sections. The new scans are of a few rare promos and some of the compilations Nirvana have appeared on. I'll scan some more covers myself pretty soon. Thanks to the guy who provided the scans for the update. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/pics.htm ] Then I finally updated the full list of songs which I created a few years ago. It lists all the titles of known Nirvana songs and it includes many of the mislabelled titles. For example "Sappy" and "Verse Chorus Verse" is really the same song. With many of the songs there is further info, like where it was recorded and stuff like that. Feel free to E-mail me if you know a Nirvana song title not on this list, or if you have more info on the existing ones. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/text/songs.txt ] The informative Nirvana Fan Club FAQ was also updated. Again I fixed some errors like spelling errors and common mistakes, as well as adding new questions and answers. I added an answer to a question I've been getting a lot lately which is the fate of cobain.com - I asked Brent who used to run the site about the it and he provided a detailed explanation. His answer is in the FAQ [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/nfc_faq.htm ] I noticed there were some problems with displaying my lyrics in Microsoft's Internet Explorer. The font size would be really large although it looked normal in Netscape. This was fixed, and I also corrected some of the actual lyrics. There can't be a lot of errors in them now! - [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/lyrics/ ] If you didn't get a copy of Celebrity Skin, which was released yesterday September 8th, you can still order it through CDnow who are selling it cheaper than most record stores. I have not received my copy yet but I think the first single is very good and I have heard good things about the album too. More info later ... [ http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/redirect/leaf=from=sr-279414 ] There was also a slight update in the Facts and Info section where I added a link to Jack Endino's Nirvana FAQ and a link to the 'First and Last' live recordings guide. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/facts/index.html ] The 'cookies' feature mentioned in the last newsletter to the WWWBoard was added. This means that you, as a regular user of the WWWBoard, won't have to type in your name, E-mail and other info every time you'd like to post a message. Just type it in one time and your browser should remember it. It seems to be working well so far but it could give you an error from time to time. Try again if it does so. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/wwwboard/ ] The Internet Nirvana Fan Club won the "Cool Site" award from NewHoo!, which is a sort of followup to the popular Yahoo! search engine. NewHoo! works the same way but they focus on having quality sites in their archives and they aim to giving the user what he/she searched for exactly. [ http://www.newhoo.com/Arts/Music/Styles/Alternative/Nirvana/ ] Vice-President Dave who is now maintaing the Breed webring is currently trying to get rid of the "dead links" in the ring which should make it run better and maintain its status as one of the most popular Nirvana webrings. Don't forget to update the HTML code for the ring if you have it on your own Nirvana site. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/breed/ ] I also got around to updating my list of Nirvana videos, which hadn't been updated in quite some time. Here you can find short descriptions of all the videos I own with Nirvana. The actual list of bootlegs was also updated. Don't forget to E-mail me if you have some Foo Fighters shows that are not on my full list. [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/bootz/ ] Nirvana News ------------ Dean Williams recently informed me of something interesting at Amazon Books' website. Amazon gives the opportunity for visitors to review an item on their site and someone who COULD be Dave Grohl did just that. The Black Flag album 'Everything Went Black' had the following review listed for it on Amazon : "A music fan from United States, July 26, 1998 - It rocked. It was totally punk. I'm 29, and in band. My prior band (if I reveal the name, i reveal my identity) was also really punk until people noticed us. Our influences included Black Flag, Bad Brains, The Melvins, and Scream (which i was once in) as well. After i heard this album for the first time, i was hooked. It just rocks!" Dave Grohl is 29 now, and he was in the band Scream before he joined Nirvana so this review could have been made by him. Then again, it could have been made by some kid pretending to be him, but it doesn't seem like its the case here. A Nirvana site called "Nirvana in Nirvana" has a comprehensive section with reviews of other Nirvana websites. It provides a large selection and some interesting reviews and comments on most of them. [ http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Venue/5032/reviews.html ] Someone got tired of the Nirvana websites out there who steal files from the larger sites and call them their own. So if you want an overview of who is stealing from who, check out "People who rip off Nirvana pages" at this URL - [ http://members.xoom.com/ripoff/ ] It has been debated for a long time if the Fecal Matter Demo tape, found by an organization called the Fecal Matter Quest, was the real thing. Apparently they now believe themselves it isn't, but really a demo by Kurt from 1982 called Organized Confusion. Kurt's aunt, Mari Earl, said that it was most likely not Kurt on the tape and Jack Endino said it didn't sound like Kurt on the tape - "It just sounded like noise, it could be anybody". I couldn't agree with him more. Also some people claim they talked to Krist Novoselic who said it was indeed Kurt on the tape but yet its unknown if it was really Krist or just a stupid rumour. I don't know myself if its Kurt on the tape or not, but I think its most obvious to assume the last. Misc Stuff ---------- Let's start this by another Hard Rock Café story that follows the ones in the past three newsletters. This one is from the Hard Rock Café in Atlantic City, NJ: "I also saw another guitar signed by Kurt. There was a Fender Jaguar signed by the whole band or maybe it was just Kurt, I forgot. There was a picture of Nirvana and the Sliver single vinyl on the wall. " Pretty brief but interesting. If you have more Hard Rock Café information related to Nirvana, feel free to e-mail it to me. I'm still interested in getting T-shirts from the places, mostly from the Hard Rock Café's in New York, Moscow, Miami and Los Angeles. If you can get one of these, I will give you bootlegs on cassette tapes for it - E-mail me for further info. Don't forget to watch the MTV Video Music Awards tomorrow evening which will feature Hole performing "Celebrity Skin" live and plenty other major artists. The actual show begins at 8 PM EST [2 AM CET] and will be broadcasted live on MTV. As mentioned earlier, Hole's long awaited new album was released yesterday and the fans seem to love it. Although it did get a poor review in Entertainment Weekly and some other magazines. Michael Goldberg from Addicted to Noise gave it a very positive review though, rating it five out of five. He also did an interview with the band and both can be found on ATN's site. [ http://www.addict.com/ ] The first newsletter was translated to Italian by Mattia Pelagatti. Hopefully the rest will be translated soon. Some of the early Newsletters are now available in English, Turkish, Spanish, German, French and Italian! Sound clips and more information about Celebrity Skin will follow in the next newsletter, hopefully. To finish off here are some tour dates for The Methodists: September 11, 1998 - Sit N' Spin, Seattle WA September 12, 1998 - EJ's, Portland OR September 15, 1998 - Coconut Teaser, Hollywood CA September 16, 1998 - Hollywood, CA September 17, 1998 - The Whiskey, Los Angeles CA September 19, 1998 - The Satyricon Club, Portland OR ------------------------------------------------------------ * Subscribing If you got a copy of this newsletter, but is not currently a subscriber then sign up for the list on my main page [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com ] * Unsubscribing If you would like to unsubscribe from the list and get your E-mail address removed, send an e-mail to me at the address - list@nirvanaclub.com - and in the subject you put "Unsub your@emailaddress".
