______________________________________________________ The Nirvana Fan Club Newsletter - # 04 - June 23, 1998 ------------------------------------------------------ Introduction ============ This is the 4th newsletter in just 21 days and currently there are more than 1500 subscribers to the newsletter. Pretty decent, considering the newsletter was started about one month ago. In this one there will be some news about my site and Nirvana related subjects as usual. Enough with the statistics - let's go on with the show ... Site Updates ============ I have recently spent a lot of time trying to correct my lyrics for the seven offical albums which are: Bleach, Nevermind, Incesticide, In Utero, Unplugged and From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah - plus the Hormoaning EP from Japan. I have gone through every single vocal track of these albums and fixed a lot of the errors in the files with lyrics. Actually there were not that many fatal errors, but a few. I've also added a more detailed form of lyrics, for example if we look at a snippet of the Bleach song "Blew": ' You could do anything (x8) ' This means that Kurt sings "You could do anything" eight times at this point in the song. Also, thanks to several people who helped in getting the lyrics fixed. I have still not started with fixing the lyrics for rare songs but I will work on that in a near future. I am sure that there are still many mistakes in those. But basically, errors in the lyrics for official albums should be more or less wiped out now .. but do let me know if you find any errors or mistakes of some sort. I also added full lyrics for the Muddy Banks album, which was not present before since the songs from the album appear on the other albums (except two songs). I am having trouble with getting the correct words for the early version of tourette's - also known as "The Eagle has landed". It will probably be difficult to get the lyrics for this one since Kurt made most of them up while he did the song and it is really hard to understand what he is saying. But if you belive you have a good idea of the lyrics for this song, please let me know as soon as possible ! The updated lyrics gallery can be found here [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/lyrics.htm ] I have just added a disclaimer for this newsletter with a lot of info about how to subscribe, unsubscribe and things like that. It also provides a little legal info, plus what you should do and not do :) I strongly suggest that you read it as it will probably clear up a few things ... the dislaimer is located in the same section as the old newsletters [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/newslet/ ] Besides that I haven't made many updates to the site. I have, however, edited the script for the WWWBoard (discussion board) so that it looks better and has a lot more control. Before I started editing the script you could not see who posted the actual messages, you would be forced to believe the info they provided themselves - with name and e-mail addresses. But now each post is automaticly provided with an IP address, host name address and the name of the browser used to make the post. This way nobody can post spam or anything like that - and get away with it. One of the biggest advantages is that other people can't post messages claiming to be you ... In my own case, I usually post messages under the name "RH" and I use the hostname 'get2net.dk' so if some other "RH" posted under the hostname 'aol.com' pretending to be me - it would be a fraud :) Just a few days ago I improved the script further because now I can ban entire ISP's from posting messages. For example if I banned "aol.com" then everyone on aol.com wouldn't be able to post a message there ... Currently only one ISP is banned (not AOL!) but that's another story. If you would like to discuss your favorite Nirvana songs, who Krist admires or something like that - team up with other Nirvana fans at the WWWBoard: [ http://www.nirvanaclub.com/wwwboard/ ] Nirvana News ============ The biggest news these past days have been provided by MTV, a story about a new movie with a soundtrack that should include covers of Nirvana songs only ... sounds weird ? It is .. well, full story follows: Puffy doing "Smells Like Teen Spirit?" Hey, it could happen. At least that's what producers for an upcoming film, "A Leonard Cohen Afterworld," are hoping, as plans call for the movie's soundtrack to be comprised of Nirvana songs covered by contemporary artists. According to "Variety," New Line Cinema has picked up an option for the film, written by Scott Rosenberg, whose previous screenplay credits include "Con Air" and "Beautiful Girls." "Afterworld," which is named after a lyric in Nirvana's "Pennyroyal Tea," focuses on two teenage friends who, on the weekend of Kurt Cobain's death in April 1994, use the memorial vigil in Seattle as an excuse to escape to Las Vegas. No word yet on which artists might be contacted to participate in the project or when the film would start production, but we [MTV] will keep you posted. Well there you go. I just hope that Puffy won't be doing any Nirvana covers but as you can see from the article, nothing is confirmed yet. A lot of people have been reviewing the "Kurt and Courtney" movie lately. Some .. most of them are negative but others are positive about the film. I haven't personally seen it yet but it should be confirmed that BBC will broadcast the movie sometime in the fall. The chances of this movie reaching the Cinema's in Europe is probably very small. But for now you can check out CNN's review [ http://www.cnn.com/SHOWBIZ/Movies/9806/18/review.kurtandcourtney/index.html ] or a review done by Thirteen Music [ http://www.13music.com/reviews/kurt/ ] Speaking of the murder theories ... apparently Tom Grant and his private investigation company recently went bankrupt and his website no longer exists - at least not on tomgrantpi.com - maybe he will re-open the site again on his ISP earthlink.net or some other place. It is still unknown weather his "murder" investigation will continue or not. This comes at a time where more people than ever have started to believe the theories. It seems like new Nirvana recordings just keep on turning up. As mentioned in the last newsletter two new videos just turned up - 8/24/90 and 2/14/90. And others should be on the way too - more news as I get it. I just received a copy of the two new ones myself, and I especially liked the 8/24/90 performance. The video itself is in a fair quality and was PRO shot but it does have some rather annoying special effects made by the guy who taped it, or the producer. Anyway, this show features Melvins drummer Dale Crover on ... err, drums and this helps giving new life to some of the songs I think. Especially 'Floyd the barber' and the opening song 'Love Buzz' This Seattle, WA show is a very good and energetic performance by the band, it's just a shame that the show is only about 40 minutes long. But in conclusion, this video should not be missed! I think the 2/14/90 video is a little boring, though ... Misc Stuff ========== Vice president of the club, Dave Labentowicz, recently opened his new website for The Methodists. It is a very nice site and offers a lot of material about them. You can find Dave's site on the following URL: [ http://www.crosswinds.net/edmonton/~dave/ ] The official website for Chad Channing's new band, The Methodists is also online now and can be found here [ http://www.themethodists.com ] Recently I got a recording of interviews and live clips from the 2/27/94 Slovenia show ... it was pretty interesting and featured an interview with Krist Novoselic. That is not very unusual, but the interview was in Croatian and not English ! Krist speaking Croatian is not something you hear every day ... and it was pretty interesting to hear him speak in this foreign language instead of his usual English. I will make some sound clips of it soon and put them somewhere on my page exclusively for subscribers :) Speaking of Krist - someone recently posted a message to the Nirvana newsgroup, claiming to be Krist Novoselic. But it turned out that it was just some kid from the UK who posted the message and not really Krist ... most of the message had a good point, though. I will put it on my page sometime soon. You can still catch TAD live on the following dates in the US: JULY 10 Jimmy Z's in Everett, WA. JULY 18 OK Hotel Cafe in Seattle's Pioneer Square. AUGUST 7 Mount Tabor Theater in Portland (Squeeze TV grand opening PDX).
