Interview with Krist Novoselic

Seattle....the people there, it's pretty amazing....just a big collective energy.....

You think it's dangerous, insane situation to have 8,000 people crammed into a hall like sardines, it's unnatural.....

This thing just happened by itself, there was no marketing scheme, or plan or anything...it just took off and they just let it go by....

You know, we were worried about a child's penis on the cover of our album...that some retailers wouldn't stock it, just because of that, you know? That's the way people think in America. The moralists, you know? Some morals, right? But we just do our thing, and if they don't want to sell our record that's fine because we don't really want to compromise, that's not what we're about....

Cause we've been really busy touring, and making videos, it's kind of distracted us away from the creative process. But after this Australian/New Zealand ahhhhhhh, Japanese and Hawaiian tour, we're gonna take a couple months off, ummm.....

It's kind of a sick system that came up with this tag "Alternative" music, you know? Because traditionally in rock and roll new movements have come up and knocked the old guys off the top, you know? And it will be just the new happening thing, because rock and roll is just constantly recreating itself. Well this new movement was coming up, and so instead of knocking the old guard off, they just labeled it alternative and it, uhhh, just kind of moved to the side. And now it's starting to run parallel with the old stuff, so I think it's gonna move over and knock it off the precipice into oblivion.
