Krist blogs about Nirvana's 1992 Roskilde show

Great blog post from Krist where he talks about Nirvana's performance at the 1992 Roskilde Festival in Denmark. As it happens, the Nirvana performance coincided with Denmark's soccer team playing (and winning) the final in the European Football Championship:

"Even though we didn't watch the match, we were rooting for Denmark. It wasn't about Germany, it was about our own self-interest. If Denmark won, then the crowd would be all the more amped. You see, a rock show is a reciprocal arrangement--if the crowd gives off energy, the band gives it back."

New In Utero footage

Recently, there was a VH1 special entitled Behind The Music - Courtney Love. It included some new footage of the In Utero recording sessions and of possibly the Hole sessions (some footage of Kurt there during the sessions). You can read a little bit more here.

Nirvana's Unplugged in New York in the Top Ten Live Albums by 411mania.com

Nirvana's album Unplugged in New York is featured at number two in the Top Ten Live Albums by 411mania.com.

Nirvana's MTV Unplugged, a somber album that revealed much about the band. The quieter, acoustic versions of their songs showed a band that had been hiding underneath all along while also giving some hints as to where the band may have gone in the future if not for Kurt Cobain's suicide. Like with Jeff Buckley, Cobain's death hangs over the entire show, but it also gives the show a context that makes it much more emotional than it would have been otherwise. The pain in Cobain's voice is almost uncomfortable at times, and it doesn't get easier when you remember what would eventually happen.

The chart also includes the likes of Johnny Cash, Jeff Buckley and Neil Young.

Cobain featured in Gibson's Top 50 Guitarists of All Time

Kurt Cobain is featured at number 49 in Gibson's Top 50 Guitarists of All Time, alongside the likes of David Gilmour, Richard Thompson and John Frusciante.

Even though he was a left-handed guitarist who, even after success came fast and hard, adamantly stuck with the junk shop models that would barely stay in tune when he played, Cobain had a totally unique ability to harness power. I'm the first to admit that I’m no virtuoso, he once said. I can’t play like Segovia. The flip side of that is that Segovia could probably never have played like me.

Courtney's reps deny intent of selling Nirvana catalogue rights

Contacted by Entertainment Weekly, Courtney Love's representatives denied the Cobain window's alleged intent of selling her 75% stake in the Nirvana song catalogue to global investment firm Oaktree Capital, for $162 million - a story that made the rounds the past few weeks.

In 2006, Courtney sold 25% of her share of the band’s publishing rights to Larry Mestal, a former Virgin Records executive, for $50 million.

Jake Gyllenhaal to play Kurt Cobain in biopic?

Prince of Persia star Jake Gyllenhaal recently told NME he could bleach his hair to play Nirvana's Kurt Cobain, although he isn't sure if he'd be the right choice to impersonate the late musician in a much-mooted biopic.
